The abbreviation of the word ATEX comes from the French "ATmosphéres EXplosibles" which means "explosive atmospheres".
The ATEX directive includes the directives:
- 2014/34/EU --> ATEX Product Directive
- 1999/92/EC --> ATEX Operating Directive
and regulates certain aspects of explosion protection in the European Union.
Accordingly, only devices that comply with the ATEX directives may be used in potentially explosive atmospheres!!!
